TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN
The Healthy & Balanced Way
It’s definitely easy to get carried away during Silly Season. With so many yummy foods going around & way too many fun social events to attend, I have to admit it does make it a bit of a challenge to stay on track. It’s very easy to get out of our normal routine of work hard, play hard at this time of year. For many, it definitely becomes more play, play, play than any work at all. So here I am, to bring some balance back to your lives.
Health & fitness is a big part of my life. I have stayed healthy & active whilst travelling the world for the past two years, & I like to think I’ve mastered the art of balance when it comes to fun & fitness. These tips are ones that I’ve gained throughout pure trial & error, they great for practising over the Christmas season. So I thought I would let you in on some of my little secrets, by sharing the love & my top tips.
Top Tips this Silly Season
With the bubbly flowing & plenty of late nights followed by way too much coffee. It’s terribly easy to forget to drink enough water. 80% of the time when we feel hungry we are actually thirsty, so always have a glass or water before raiding the fridge. This can help so much when it comes to making sure we don’t overeat. Especially as many of us will be consuming far more empty calories than normal, through the fun of indulging in way too much alcohol this season.
Obviously, my go-to for this is my beautiful Sol Bottle. It’s literally so pretty that I just want to carry it around with me to show it off. Which is great, as I’m absolutely terrible at drinking water. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just forget. So every little help’s, & Sol you definitely help!
Make the Most of the Beautiful Weather
Now if you’re living in Australia, the fact that it’s 30degrees outside may have given it away that its the peak of summer here. I know I know, it’s very easy to get carried away passing by the hours whilst lounging around on the beach. I feel like I may be the #1 culprit for this, especially when it comes to procrastinating.
The saying “time flies when you’re having fun” definitely has a lot of truth to it, but I also find the less I do on a day the faster times seems to go. Before I know it it’s already winter, & I’m back to working hard for the summer months.
So this year, I made a promise to myself that whenever the sun is shining I try & fit in as much as I possibly can. I workout, go for walks, meet up with friends, get work done, blog, cook, & try and be as adventurous as I can & make the most of the outdoors.
Make time for yourself. It’s so easy to get carried away hanging out with friends or doing things for others, especially at this time of year. It’s important to remember that you need some loving too.
Maybe you take up a yoga class once a week or give yourself 10mins a day to just sit & clear your mind. There are so many ways you can give back to yourself. My personal favourite is being active on a daily basis. When I go to the gym, it’s time for myself. It’s an hour a day where I simply focus on enjoying my own time & being within my own mind.
Now if you’re not an active person this may seem slightly strange to you. Maybe start by just going for a long walk on your own, or a swim in the sea. The endorphins you feel after exercise will honestly give you the best boost & completely change the tone of your whole day.
Healthy mind = Healthy Life
Now this one is probably more focused on keeping a healthy & balanced soul over Silly Season. It can be easy to get carried away buying presents & planning events, that we forget our mind needs a bit of a rest sometimes as well.
Writing is something that I really struggled with at school. I’m dyslexic & dyspraxic so you can probably imagine that from a young age I found it difficult to keep up with others when it came to reading & writing. The problem was, the more I struggled the more I decided I hated both. So for a very long time, in fact, up until recently it has been something that I have avoided at all costs.
I even did a degree in art so that my main focus wouldn’t be that of writing. Although that didn’t quite work out as I still had to write a massive dissertation at the end of the course. I guess what I didn’t realise was that writing is also a form of creativity. So it was kind of ingrained in me from the start anyway.
It wasn’t until I started my health & fitness blog that I decided to write about my weight loss journey. The more I wrote the more I realised I was enjoying it. there weren’t the same pressures there had been at school & I could express myself in the way I wanted to.
Over time, my writing has probably shifted slightly from health & fitness to expressing my concerns about the environment & ways in which we can help. Whatever I’m writing about, it’s still an outlook of my inner mind, & it can be for you too. So take your Sol Cup
