“I honestly can’t believe the difference 10mins a day can make.”
Now there’s always points in our lives that are busier than others. Sometimes everything just comes at once. You realise you’re running around like crazy, with so much to do that you just don’t know where to start.
Well, I’m here today to explain to you the benefits of just stopping for 10mins each morning (or evening) & giving time back to yourself. It’s so easy to get caught up in the everyday craziness, that sometimes we forget to just stop. Before you ask, NO, scrolling through Instagram or Facebook does not count as rest. We are constantly filling our brains with a continuous stimulus, whether it be visionary or audio. So much so that we’ve forgotten how to just let it rest.
Oh How Time Flies
It all started for me last year. I was working 4 days a week and studying for my personal training course the other 3 days. I was exercising 6 times a week, whilst also trying to blog regularly. Let’s just say it was all getting on top of me a bit, as you can probably imagine! I was getting stressed and frustrated with the fact I wasn’t enjoying my time in Melbourne or having anywhere near enough sleep, and I was taking this anger out on those I loved.
It was actually perfect timing. I had joined this Facebook group called the Living Consciously Crew and they were doing a meditation challenge for the month. After really struggling with meditation a couple of years earlier in Costa Rica, I had steered clear of it as much as I possibly could. The benefits of letting your mind rest won me over and I decided to do some research.

HeadSpace – 10mins
I came across a meditation app called HeadSpace and decided to give it ago. I needed to just sit for a while and try to stop over thinking everything that was on my todo list.
The app was absolutely fantastic! There was a month free trial, that would talk you through 10mins each day of how to clear your mind. There are different styles, different lengths of time & even different levels so you can build up to higher levels.
It made me realise how much our brains are constantly being bombarded by sensory information. I think sometimes we just need to stop. Even if it’s just for 10mins a day. I honestly can’t believe the difference 10mins a day can make. It’s just 10mins to stop everything, to stop worrying, to stop overthinking and just have time for your brain to clear and rest.
I found that it was at this time after that my mind was actually in its clearest when it came to thinking about what my goals and aims for the future were.

Meditation not for you?
If you’re anything like me and really struggle with the reality of attempting to meditate (I know it’s something I need to work on, practice makes perfect hey!?!) then you might enjoy a few of my other suggestions.
There are so many other ways you can give back to yourself. One of my favourites is heading to the beach with just me and a bottle of water, of course in my all-time favourite Sol Bottle and just sitting and taking in the moment. I’ll just sit there for 10mins and take in all the beauty around me.
One of my other favourite ways to give back to me is to do a good 10mins of stretching. This is one where I can end up doing half an hour without even realising 10mins has passed. It’s a great way just to get the blood flowing through your body and forget about everything else for a little while.
Grab your favourite Sol Cup (my goto is the 12oz Perfect Pink) head down to your local cafe, bakery or coffee shop and grab yourself a coffee or juice. It takes me about 15/20 to walk down grab a coffee and get back home. It’s literally perfect thinking time/break for me. Especially when I’m in the middle of working online.
Give Back this Year
There are so many easy ways you can give back to yourself. So take 10mins a day and give it ago. I promise you will be pleasantly surprised by the difference it can make.
